Open and affirming covenant

Constitution of New Covenant of Inclusion

Article IV – Open and Affirming Church Covenant

Section 1. Our Identity

New Covenant of Inclusion is an Open and Affirming congregation. We proclaim that God’s love is boundless and that Jesus Christ calls us to welcome, love, and serve all people. We affirm the sacred worth and God-given dignity of every person, recognizing that all are created in the image of God.

As an Open and Affirming church, we joyfully welcome into the full life and ministry of this congregation people of every race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, age, ability, economic circumstance, family structure, marital status, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and faith journey.

We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are given without regard to human distinctions and that all who seek to follow Christ are invited to worship, serve, lead, and grow within this community of faith.

Section 2. Our Covenant

In response to God’s grace, we covenant together to:

  • Love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength.
  • Love our neighbors as ourselves.
  • Welcome every person with radical hospitality, compassion, dignity, and respect.
  • Celebrate the diversity of God’s creation and honor the unique stories and experiences of every individual.
  • Stand against discrimination, prejudice, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and all forms of injustice that diminish the image of God in others.
  • Foster a congregation where all people may fully participate in worship, leadership, ministry, fellowship, and the sacraments according to the gifts God has given them.
  • Walk together with humility, honesty, forgiveness, and mutual accountability.
  • Pray for one another and support one another through life’s joys, challenges, and sorrows.
  • Serve our neighbors through ministries of compassion, justice, advocacy, and peace.
  • Care faithfully for God’s creation and work for the healing of our communities and world.
  • Share the good news of Jesus Christ through words of hope and acts of love.

Section 3. Our Promise

We promise to nurture a church where questions are welcomed, faith is explored with openness, diversity is celebrated as a gift from God, and every person is encouraged to discover and live out God’s calling.

We recognize that we are continually being transformed by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we commit ourselves to lives of ongoing learning, repentance, reconciliation, and faithful discipleship.

Section 4. Mutual Responsibility

Members of New Covenant of Inclusion pledge to care for one another with compassion, speak truth in love, protect the dignity of every person, resolve conflict through grace and reconciliation, and uphold the mission and ministry of this congregation through prayer, generosity, service, and faithful participation.

Likewise, the congregation commits to providing a safe, welcoming, and spiritually nurturing community where every member is encouraged to grow in faith and to use their God-given gifts for the building up of the Body of Christ.

Section 5. Open and Affirming Commitment

As an Open and Affirming congregation, New Covenant of Inclusion publicly declares that all people—including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and other LGBTQIA+ persons—are fully welcomed into the life, ministry, leadership, fellowship, and membership of this church.

We celebrate the diversity of God’s beloved children and reject any teaching or practice that denies the full humanity, dignity, or participation of any person because of who they are.

Through God’s grace, we strive to embody Christ’s inclusive love in all we do.
